National Commander’s Message

I sincerely hope that as a new member or one of our seasoned SAMS members you will enjoy our Organization and Society to its fullest benefit.  We are unique because not only are we the smallest Veterans group, but also because we can claim our Scottish heritage as a member.  My ancestry makes me particularly proud, and I think anyone who is Scottish or Scots-Irish knows exactly how I feel.

Belonging to a Clan and wearing your Clan’s tartan or your military tartan is one of the proudest moments in anyone’s life when you put it on for the first time.  It gives you a sense of belonging, a “family” sense of being more than what we are on a daily basis to our family and friends.   We are all Brothers and Sisters in SAMS – a solid front, with a common desire – to belong. When we wear our kilts, we are wearing our armour and honour.

My goal for SAMS is to see 2,500 members strong in 2025. I know we are capable of reaching that goal.  I would also like to see 50 Post/Camps by the year’s end, so all our members can join and experience all we have to offer from our Regions, Regional Commanders and Post Commanders.  These men and women are the “troops in the field”, they have been what has kept SAMS strong throughout the 43 years as a Society.  I hope that each and every member whose name appears on our Membership will get involved and make SAMS the Veterans group to join.
