William Lothian "Scotty" Sells

William Lothian ‘Scotty’ Sells, Jr. 1 Aug. 1947~18 June 2018

Born in Seattle, William L. Sells Jr., of Longview, Washington, died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Scotty was educated at Whitman College, the University of Washington, and Hastings Law School in San Francisco. He served in the Marine Corps and later in the Army Reserve as a Judge Advocate General. He returned to active duty in 2003 and retired from the Pentagon in 2005 as a Colonel. He subsequently served as a defense contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Scotty was very proud of his Scottish ancestry and wore the Clan Gunn tartan with great dignity. He was well traveled due to his long military service, but his trip to Scotland a few years ago was a true highlight in his life. Scotty and wife Penny were early and active members of Post 1852, but became inactive after Scotty’s Alzheimer’s required that he be placed in a memory care facility several months ago. Scotty is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters. A private service, complete with piper and a military honor guard, was held in Longview on June 21.
